Android can coordinate a transfer that avoids downloading readable password files.

The transfer

Google introduced a process in September 2026 in which the destination password manager initiates import and Android discovers existing providers. With compatible apps, passwords and passkeys can move without a plain-text export. Availability depends on Android version and provider support.

Before switching

Update Android and both apps, verify the destination publisher and start the import from that app. Count accounts, test a password and a passkey, and retain the old manager until verification is complete. If CSV export is necessary, treat it as sensitive, protect it and remove it after testing the migration.
